A composite deck with a timber frame covered porch gave this Marietta homeowner the low-maintenance, year-round outdoor space the old rear deck could never deliver. The existing structure was not tied into the house correctly and had been improperly built from the start, making a full tear-down and complete rebuild the only responsible path forward. Ace & Hammer Construction started from scratch, implementing the additional framing required to properly connect the new deck to the house and bring the entire structure up to code before a single deck board was installed.
The new deck features TimberTech Prime + composite decking in a two-tone layout visible in the photos, with a contrasting border that gives the surface a finished, deliberate look. A timber frame roof structure was built over the main deck area, with exposed cedar rafters and a white shiplap ceiling that creates a covered outdoor living space suited for dining and entertaining in any weather. A separate open section of the deck was intentionally left uncovered alongside the roofed area to provide a dedicated grilling zone, and Fortress Al13 aluminum railing runs the full perimeter to tie both spaces together visually with a clean, consistent black finish.
A covered deck with aluminum railing built at this level of detail changes how a home’s outdoor space functions across every season, and this Marietta project is a clear example of what a full rebuild can accomplish when every decision is made with longevity and livability in mind. A homeowner considering a similar investment can expect a space that is as comfortable in the middle of summer as it is on a cool fall evening, with materials and construction quality that will hold up for years without constant upkeep.
